Sunsynk Acure 5kW Hybrid Inverter, 8kWp, Arc Fault Detection

The Acure 5.0 kW carries the widest array ratio in Sunsynk's single-phase range: 8 kWp of panels against 5 kW of output, 1.6 times over-sized. On a UK roof that is the difference between a battery that fills by lunchtime in April and one that never quite gets there.

It is the volume seller of the three for a reason. 5 kW suits a four-bedroom house with a heat pump or an EV, the two 18 A trackers take modern high-current panels without string gymnastics, and Sunsynk hold both G98 and G99 certification for it on the ENA register.

What's in the box

From the parts list in the SunC1-(3.6-6)LV01 user manual. The DC plug connectors and the tool for fitting them are supplied, which saves buying MC4s separately, and there is no monitoring dongle to fit because the radios are inside the case.

Eight kilowatt-peak on a five kilowatt inverter

Sunsynk allow 8 kWp of modules here. The inverter will still only push 5 kW to the grid, but the surplus is not wasted – it charges the battery and runs the house while the export is capped. The practical effect shows up in the shoulder months: a 5 kWp array on a dull March day may produce 2 kW, while an 8 kWp array on the same day produces 3.2 kW and actually fills the battery.

Clipping only bites for a few hours around midday in high summer, when the battery is usually full anyway. Size the array to the roof and the budget rather than to the inverter's output figure.

Panels and strings

Two trackers, one string each, 18 A working and 27 A short-circuit per tracker. That current headroom is what makes an 8 kWp array practical on two strings. The MPPT window is 150–425 V with a 125 V start-up and a hard 500 V ceiling, so calculate each string's open-circuit voltage at the lowest winter temperature and leave margin under 500 V.

What is built into the case

Arc-fault detection runs on the DC side, watching for the signature of a loose connector or damaged string cable and dropping the string before it becomes a fire. Solar panel theft detection is in the firmware. A multi-colour LED strip reports system state from across the room, and the cooling is variable-speed rather than a fan that runs flat out or not at all.

Up to 16 units can be paralleled on matching firmware, and up to 10 Smartlynk wireless smart switches can be programmed to shed or shift individual loads.

Alternative sizes

The single-phase Acure range covers 3.6 kW to 8 kW on 48 V batteries, sharing this case, app and feature set. Only the 3.6 kW avoids a G99 application.
