How the solar system builder works
Enter your daily electricity use and roof type, and the builder sizes a complete solar PV system around it — panels, inverter, battery storage and every balance-of-system part needed to install it. You get three costed options: Budget for the lowest upfront cost, Balanced for the best long-term value, and Premium for maximum generation and the longest warranties.
Every kit is checked against the same design rules an installer would apply. String voltage is calculated at −10 °C to confirm cold Voc stays inside the inverter's maximum DC input. The DC/AC ratio is validated against the inverter's own limit so the array won't clip. Battery pairing is restricted to combinations the manufacturer actually supports — high-voltage and low-voltage packs are never mixed, and series-specific rules are enforced. The result tells you whether the system falls under G98 notification or needs a full G99 DNO application.

Common questions
What size solar system do I need?
As a rough guide, a UK array generates around 950 kWh per kWp installed each year. A home using 12 kWh a day (roughly 4,380 kWh a year) typically suits a 4–5 kWp array of about 10 panels. Enter your actual daily usage or monthly bill above and the builder sizes it for you.
Do I need G98 or G99 approval?
Single-phase inverters rated at or below 3.68 kW AC can normally be installed under G98, which is a notification to your DNO after commissioning. Anything above that generally requires a G99 application before installation. The builder tells you which route applies to your configuration.
Which battery works with my inverter?
Not all batteries pair with all inverters. Some manufacturers only permit their own packs, and high-voltage batteries cannot be used with low-voltage inverters. The builder only ever offers batteries the selected inverter actually supports, so an incompatible pairing can't be specified by accident.
Can I install a solar kit myself?
The DC side of a PV installation is notifiable electrical work. Kits can be bought without a trade account, but the grid connection and final commissioning should be completed by a competent electrician, and MCS certification is required if you want to claim the Smart Export Guarantee.
What is the DC/AC ratio and why does it matter?
It's the array's DC capacity divided by the inverter's AC rating. Slight oversizing is normal and improves winter yield, but too much causes clipping, where generation above the inverter's limit is lost. Each inverter's own limit is checked as your kit is built.
