Solis 8.0kW 5G Dual MPPT - Single Phase with DC

Solis · 5G Single Phase

Solis 8.0kW 5G Dual MPPT - Single Phase with DC

Solis 5G Single Phase — 8 kW on a single phase, for the biggest domestic roofs.

Eight kilowatts is about as much as a single-phase supply will usually take, and it is the right answer for a large detached roof, a barn conversion or a house that has just gained a heat pump and an EV. The Solis 1P8K-5G delivers it in a 13.3 kg wall-mounted box that one person can install.

Overview

About the Solis 5G Single Phase

The asymmetric tracker design is the interesting part: input A takes 12.5 A and input B takes 25 A across two strings. That lets you hang a large main array off B and a smaller secondary orientation off A, rather than forcing a symmetrical layout the roof does not have.

It also supports 1.1× overload, so a 10.4 kW array on an 8 kW inverter is a supported design rather than a compromise — useful in the UK where peak output is reached for only a handful of hours a year and clipping costs almost nothing.

For the installer

String design, certification and what is in the box

The details that decide whether this unit suits the job:

  • Two trackers with different current ratings (12.5 A and 25 A) — check your string design against the right input.
  • Maximum DC input power 10.4 kW against 8 kW AC, so meaningful DC oversizing is designed in, not tolerated.
  • 13.3 kg, single-person install.
  • EN 50549 and G99 certified; expect a G99 application at this size on a single phase.
Applications

Where this inverter earns its place

The 5G Single Phase is specified most often for these jobs.

Large detached roofsWhere the array runs past 8 kWp and the supply is single phase.
Heat pump and EV householdsSized for homes whose electrical demand has doubled.
Barn and outbuilding arraysBig roof, single phase supply, no three-phase available.
Farm diversificationModest commercial generation on a domestic connection.
Oversized DC designs1.1× overload support makes a 10 kWp array on 8 kW AC a sound design.
Battery and storage

Can I add a battery to this?

This is a grid-tied PV inverter. It converts solar DC into AC for the property and the grid, and it has no battery port. That is not a shortcoming — it is the right architecture for a system without storage, and it is why it costs what it does.

If storage is on the roadmap, you have two routes. Add an AC-coupled battery system alongside this inverter later, which works with any PV inverter and needs no change to what is already installed. Or choose a hybrid inverter now and pay for a battery port you will use in a year or two. We are happy to talk that trade-off through before you order.

Things worth knowing about this listing

These notes come from us and from the manufacturer, and they are the ones that most often cause a problem after delivery:
  • Please note this inverter has two MPP trackers, each with a different maximum allowed DC current. Check your string design against the right input.
  • Some manufacturer documents for this model are currently missing. They will be added as soon as the manufacturer releases them.

Frequently asked questions

Questions we get asked about this inverter

Will my DNO allow 8 kW on single phase?

It is a G99 application rather than a G98 notification, and the answer depends on your local network. Most UK DNOs will allow it with an export limit; some will allow full export. Apply before you buy the panels.

Why are the two trackers different sizes?

Input B is rated 25 A across two strings for the main array, input A 12.5 A for one string. It suits a large primary orientation plus a smaller secondary one.

Can I oversize the array?

Yes, up to 10.4 kW of modules. The inverter clips the handful of hours a year that exceed 8 kW, and you gain generation every other day of the year.
