SolarEdge 3,000W Home Hub Inverter with Whole Home Backup Potential 1PH

SolarEdge · Home Hub Inverter, single phase

SolarEdge 3,000W Home Hub Inverter with Whole Home Backup Potential 1PH

SolarEdge Home Hub Inverter, single phase — 99 % weighted efficiency, 200 % DC oversizing and the whole SolarEdge Home ecosystem in one box.

A hybrid inverter does three jobs a string inverter cannot. It converts solar DC to AC; it charges and discharges a battery on the DC side, which avoids the double conversion an AC-coupled battery pays for; and when the grid fails it can island the house and keep a backup circuit alive from the battery.

Overview

About the SolarEdge Home Hub Inverter, single phase

The Home Hub is SolarEdge's answer to all of that in a single unit. Because the array runs through optimisers at a fixed 380 V, the inverter is small, light and unusually efficient — 99 % European weighted on most models — and it will take up to 200 % DC oversizing, so the array can be sized for a British winter rather than for a July afternoon.

The battery is DC coupled, which means solar charges it without the AC conversion round trip an AC-coupled battery pays for. Up to three SolarEdge Home Battery 400V units connect to one inverter, each good for 5 kW, and the whole system — production, storage, backup, EV charger and hot water diverter — is managed from one app.

Backup is an option rather than a given: it needs the SolarEdge Home Backup Interface, bought separately, and with it the system can carry a whole house up to a 100 A service.

Battery compatibility

Which battery does this inverter take?

This inverter takes SolarEdge Home Battery 400V.

This rule applies to the SolarEdge Home Hub SINGLE PHASE (SExxxxH-RWS / RWB).

Up to 3 batteries per inverter, 5,000 W continuous each, total limited to the inverter's rated AC power.

What we stock that fits this inverter:

This is the opposite battery to the three-phase Home Hub, which takes the 48 V BAT-05K48. The 400 V and 48 V SolarEdge batteries are different architectures and cannot be swapped between the two inverters, whichever one you already own. Check the inverter's part number before ordering the battery, and ask us if you are not certain.
For the installer

String design, battery limits and what is in the box

The details that decide whether this unit suits the job:

  • Every module needs a SolarEdge power optimiser, or a SolarEdge Smart Module with one built in. A SolarEdge inverter will not commission on a plain string of modules, and the optimiser also does the module-level monitoring and the rapid shutdown that the platform is bought for.
  • Battery is the SolarEdge Home Battery 400V. Up to three per inverter, 5 kW each. The three-phase Home Hub takes the 48 V battery instead — the two are not interchangeable.
  • Backup needs the SolarEdge Home Backup Interface (SE-SBI-1PH), bought separately, for a service up to 100 A. Up to three single-phase inverters can sit behind one interface with a firmware update.
  • Total continuous discharge is limited to the inverter's rated AC power, on grid and in backup, whatever the battery could deliver on its own.
  • Maximum DC input is 480 V with a 380 V nominal operating point. There is no MPPT window to design to: the optimisers hold the string at 380 V.
  • DC oversizing up to 200 %: 12 kW of modules on the 6 kW, 20 kW on the 10 kW.
  • The 3 kW to 6 kW models are 370 × 459 × 154 mm and 12 kg with two MC4 pairs for PV; the 8 kW and 10 kW are 370 × 535 × 185 mm and 19.6 kg with three.
  • Arc fault protection is integrated and user configurable. Nighttime consumption is under 2.5 W.
Applications

Where this hybrid earns its place

The Home Hub Inverter, single phase is specified most often for these jobs.

Shaded or complex roofsModule-level MPPT through the optimisers.
Whole-house backupWith the Backup Interface, a service up to 100 A.
Winter-weighted arraysUp to 200 % DC oversizing.
Households adding storage laterBattery, EV charger and diverter all join the same system.
Installations that need module-level dataPer-module monitoring as standard.
Tight plant spaces12 kg and under 25 dBA on the smaller models.

Things worth knowing about this listing

These notes come from us and from the manufacturer, and they are the ones that most often cause a problem after delivery:
  • Backup needs the SolarEdge Home Backup Interface (SE-SBI-1PH), bought separately. The inverter runs PV and storage without it, but there is no backup output.
  • Every module needs a SolarEdge power optimiser, or a SolarEdge Smart Module with one built in. This inverter will not commission on a plain string of modules.

Frequently asked questions

Questions we get asked about this inverter

Which battery does it take?

The SolarEdge Home Battery 400V, up to three per inverter. This is the point people get wrong: the single-phase Home Hub takes the 400 V battery and the three-phase Home Hub takes the 48 V one. They are not interchangeable, so check which inverter you are ordering for.

Do I need optimisers?

Yes, one per module, or SolarEdge Smart Modules with them built in. A SolarEdge inverter will not run a plain string.

Does backup work out of the box?

No. It needs the SolarEdge Home Backup Interface (SE-SBI-1PH), which is a separate purchase. Without it the inverter still runs PV and storage, but there is no backup output.

How much can it deliver in a power cut?

Up to the inverter's own rated AC power — SolarEdge limit total continuous discharge to that figure both on grid and in backup — from up to three batteries at 5 kW each.

What does 200 % DC oversizing actually buy?

A bigger array on the same inverter, which raises winter and shoulder-season output when nothing is near the inverter's limit. You lose a little on the brightest summer days, and gain across the rest of the year.
