A battery cannot keep a house running through a power cut unless something first disconnects that house from the grid. On a SolarEdge Home Hub system that something is the Backup Interface.
About the SolarEdge Home Backup Interface
It sits between the incoming supply and the property, and when the grid fails it opens, islands the installation and lets the inverter and battery carry the load.
There are two versions and they are not interchangeable: one for single-phase Home Hub inverters and one for three-phase. Get the phase wrong and the part is no use at all.
Without it the system still stores and self-consumes — it just goes dark with everything else when the grid does.

Do I need one?

Yes, it can be fitted to an existing Home Hub installation.
