Dyness DL5.0C 5.12kWh LV LFP Battery with Heated Cells

Dyness DL5.0C — 5.12 kWh at 48 V, 90 % usable, and on one of the longest inverter compatibility lists in the market.

A battery pays for itself by moving energy in time: solar generated at midday and electricity bought on an overnight rate, both spent in the evening. What decides whether it pays is the usable capacity, the charge rate and the cycle life, in that order.

Overview

About the Dyness DL5.0C

The DL5.0C is Dyness's economy 48 V module: 5.12 kWh nominal and 4.61 kWh usable at a 90 % depth of discharge, with at least 6,000 cycles. This listing is the heated version, so it keeps charging down to −20 °C rather than stopping at zero.

It scales a long way. Up to fifty modules go in parallel, which is 256 kWh, and Dyness supply wall, floor and rack mounts for the same module.

What makes it easy to specify is the compatibility list. Dyness publish one that runs to a dozen inverter manufacturers, so the battery is rarely the thing that dictates the rest of the system.

Scaling

What each stack size gives you

Modules go in parallel, so the system stays at 48 V however many you fit. Up to fifty are allowed; these are the sizes people build:

Stack size
1 module5.12 kWh nominal — 4.61 kWh usable
2 modules10.24 kWh nominal — 9.22 kWh usable
3 modules15.36 kWh nominal — 13.82 kWh usable
4 modules20.48 kWh nominal — 18.43 kWh usable
6 modules30.72 kWh nominal — 27.65 kWh usable
8 modules40.96 kWh nominal — 36.86 kWh usable
12 modules61.44 kWh nominal — 55.30 kWh usable
16 modules81.92 kWh nominal — 73.73 kWh usable
Inverter compatibility

Which inverter will run this battery?

This is a 48 V low-voltage battery, the architecture most low-voltage hybrid inverters sold in the UK are built around.

Dyness publish a compatible inverter list rather than a compatibility matrix: SMA, Schneider, Victron Energy, Ingeteam, Solis, GoodWe, Growatt, Solplanet, Luxpower, DEYE and others. What it will never work with is a high-voltage hybrid — a 48 V battery and a 300 – 900 V one are different architectures and no adapter bridges them. Send us the inverter model and we will confirm against Dyness's current list before you order.

Hybrid inverter platforms in our range that take this architecture:

Inverter platforms
Solis S6-EH1P L-PLUS SolaratorSingle phase, 10K, 3.6K, 3K, 5K and others
Solis S6-EH3P Solarator, three phase low voltageThree phase, 10K, 15K

Stack rules, cabling and what else the job needs

The details that decide whether this battery suits the system:

  • 51.2 V nominal, 44.8 – 57.6 V operating, 100 Ah.
  • 50 A recommended, 75 A charge, 100 A discharge maximum, 110 A for 15 s peak.
  • Depth of discharge 90 %, so 4.61 kWh of the 5.12 kWh is usable.
  • Dyness publish a compatible inverter list rather than a compatibility matrix: SMA, Schneider, Victron Energy, Ingeteam, Solis, GoodWe, Growatt, Solplanet, Luxpower, DEYE and others. What it will never work with is a high-voltage hybrid — a 48 V battery and a 300 – 900 V one are different architectures and no adapter bridges them. Send us the inverter model and we will confirm against Dyness's current list before you order.
  • 558 × 150 × 545 mm and 49.9 kg.
  • Charge 0 °C to +55 °C, or −20 °C with the heating function; discharge −20 °C to +55 °C.
  • CAN / RS485 / RS232 to the inverter. IP20, indoor.
  • Wall mounted, floor standing or racked — Dyness supply mounts for all three.
  • Remote firmware upgrade and app monitoring; the WiFi module is optional on this model.
  • Scalable to 256 kWh at fifty modules.
Applications

Where this battery earns its place

The DL5.0C is specified most often for these jobs.

Retrofit onto a low-voltage hybridOn most manufacturers' approved lists.
Systems that growUp to 50 in parallel.
Mixed-brand systemsNot tied to one inverter maker.
Time-of-use tariffs90 % depth of discharge.
Cold locationsHeating function extends charging below 0 °C.
Self-consumptionDaily cycling for 6,000 cycles or more.

Things worth knowing about this listing

These notes come from us and from the manufacturer, and they are the ones that most often cause a problem after delivery:
  • This is the heated-cell version of the DL5.0C. It charges down to −20 °C rather than stopping at 0 °C, which is when an overnight tariff is cheapest.

Frequently asked questions

Questions we get asked about this inverter

Will it work with my inverter?

Very probably, if it is a low-voltage hybrid. Dyness list SMA, Schneider, Victron, Ingeteam, Solis, GoodWe, Growatt, Solplanet, Luxpower and DEYE among others. Send us the model and we will check.

How much of it can I actually use?

4.61 kWh, at the 90 % depth of discharge Dyness recommend.

How many can I put together?

Up to 50. Most homes fit one to four.

Can it be charged in the cold?

Charging normally stops at 0 °C. The heating function extends it to −20 °C, which matters because that is when an overnight tariff is cheapest.
