Solis S6 20 kW Three Phase Hybrid High Voltage Inverter

Solis S6-EH3P(12-20)K-H — Dual backup ports, generator input and a 20 A string current for the largest domestic and small commercial roofs.

A hybrid inverter does three jobs a string inverter cannot. It converts solar DC to AC; it charges and discharges a battery on the DC side, which avoids the double conversion an AC-coupled battery pays for; and when the grid fails it islands the site and keeps a backup circuit alive from the battery.

Overview

About the Solis S6-EH3P(12-20)K-H

The 12 to 20 kW S6 is where the range stops being a house inverter and starts being a building inverter. Four MPP trackers at 20 A each take up to 40 kW of array on the 20K, and the battery window widens to 120 – 800 V so a taller stack can be used without paralleling.

Two features on this range are worth the money on a real site. The dual backup ports let critical and non-critical loads be separated, so a long outage keeps the freezer and the boiler running after the inverter has shed everything else. And the generator input detects the AC voltage on both the grid and the generator, which stops the inverter back-feeding a generator that is not running — the failure mode that destroys generators.

It is fan cooled at under 65 dB, IP66, and 35.2 kg, with a 7-inch LCD and Bluetooth for setup.

Battery compatibility

Which battery does this inverter take?

This inverter takes High voltage, roughly 120 – 800 V depending on model.

This model has a battery voltage window of 120 – 800 V, a maximum charge or discharge current of 50 A, BMS communication over CAN / RS485.

Battery option to select when commissioning: PYLON_HV for Pylontech; otherwise "Lithium Battery HV".

Models the manufacturer names as compatible: Pylontech Force-H1-V2, Force-H2-V2, Force-H3, PowerCube-M1C/M2/M3A-100/M3A-180/M5/M7, PowerCube-XH series and Pylontech M1; plus Pytes HV48100, Raystech, Renon Xtreme and others.

What we stock that fits this inverter:

Low voltage and high voltage batteries are not interchangeable. A 48 V battery cannot be used on a high-voltage hybrid and a high-voltage stack cannot be used on a low-voltage one, whatever a general compatibility list says, and no adapter changes that. Solis put it plainly on their own list: installing a non-compatible battery will void the inverter warranty. If you are not certain, ask us and we will check it against your part number before you order.

String design, battery limits and what is in the box

The details that decide whether this unit suits the job:

  • Battery is high voltage lithium, 120 – 800 V, 50 A maximum charge or discharge, CAN or RS485.
  • Four MPP trackers, one string each, 20 A per string and 30 A Isc. 1,000 V maximum, 160 V start-up, 200 – 850 V MPPT window.
  • Usable PV input is 160 % of rated: 19.2 kW on the 12K, 32 kW on the 20K, against a recommended array of 24 kW to 40 kW.
  • Backup is 2 × rated for 10 s on the 12K and 15K, 1.6 × on the 20K. Switch time is under 10 ms.
  • Maximum power per phase is 50 % of rated on the 12K and 15K, 40 % on the 20K, with 100 % allowable imbalance.
  • Dual backup ports allow critical and non-critical load groups.
  • SG Ready heat pump compatibility and peak shaving in both self-use and generator modes.
  • 563 × 546 × 250 mm, 35.2 kg, IP66, fan cooled under 65 dB. Maximum altitude 2,000 m, lower than the rest of the range.

Frequently asked questions

Questions we get asked about this inverter

What does the second backup port do?

It lets you split the backup circuits into critical and non-critical groups. In a long outage the inverter can drop the non-critical group and keep the freezer, boiler and lighting running for considerably longer on the same battery.

Which battery?

A high-voltage lithium stack inside 120 – 800 V. Solis publish a compatibility list and fitting a battery that is not on it voids the inverter warranty, so check the exact model before ordering.

How much PV can I actually connect?

Up to 160 % of the rated DC power — 19.2 kW usable on the 12K and 32 kW on the 20K — provided each string stays inside 20 A and the array sits in the 200 – 850 V window.

Is it quiet enough for indoors?

It is fan cooled and quoted at under 65 dB, so it belongs in a plant room or garage rather than next to a bedroom.
