Viridian Clearline 2.0kW 1PH Inverter 1MPPT with integrated DC isolator switch

Viridian · Clearline Inverter 1.0 – 3.0 kW

Viridian Clearline 2.0kW 1PH Inverter 1MPPT with integrated DC isolator switch

Viridian Clearline Inverter 1.0 – 3.0 kW — A British inverter with a factory-fitted isolator, a 10-year warranty and a Cambridge phone number.

Viridian Solar are a Cambridge company best known for the Clearline in-roof mounting system, and the Clearline inverter is designed to go with it. What you are buying alongside the hardware is UK technical and design support from people you can actually reach — which, when a commissioning question comes up on a Friday afternoon, is worth a great deal more than a tenth of a percent of efficiency.

Overview

About the Viridian Clearline Inverter 1.0 – 3.0 kW

Three practical things distinguish it. The DC isolator is factory fitted, not an accessory, so there is no separate enclosure on the wall and no extra glands to weatherproof. The footprint is roughly an A4 sheet of paper — 295 × 230 × 113 mm at 5.8 kg. And the warranty is 10 years as standard rather than five.

It starts at 40 V on the smallest model with a 40 – 450 V MPPT window, which is genuinely low and gets useful generation out of a small array on a dull morning. Suitable for installations from 0.67 kWp up to 4.5 kWp DC.

For the installer

String design, certification and what is in the box

The details that decide whether this unit suits the job:

  • DC isolator factory fitted — integrated, not an add-on.
  • One MPP tracker, one string, 15 A input, 18.75 A Isc across the whole range.
  • PV insulation resistance detection, residual current monitoring, anti-islanding, AC overcurrent, short-circuit and overvoltage protection all integrated.
  • DC surge protection Type III as standard with Type II optional; AC surge protection Type III.
  • AFCI, emergency power off and remote shutdown all available as options.
  • LED, LCD, WLAN and app; Wi-Fi or LAN communication.
  • UK technical and design support from Viridian in Cambridge.
Applications

Where this inverter earns its place

The Clearline Inverter 1.0 – 3.0 kW is specified most often for these jobs.

Clearline in-roof installationsDesigned as part of the same system as the mounting.
Small domestic arrays0.67 kWp to 4.5 kWp DC.
Installs where support mattersUK-based technical help rather than an overseas call centre.
Tight plant spacesA4 footprint, 5.8 kg, under 30 dB.
Specifications requiring a 10-year warrantyStandard here rather than a paid extension.
New build and developer schemesConsistent product with UK design support behind it.
Battery and storage

Can I add a battery to this?

This is a grid-tied PV inverter. It converts solar DC into AC for the property and the grid, and it has no battery port. That is not a shortcoming — it is the right architecture for a system without storage, and it is why it costs what it does.

If storage is on the roadmap, you have two routes. Add an AC-coupled battery system alongside this inverter later, which works with any PV inverter and needs no change to what is already installed. Or choose a hybrid inverter now and pay for a battery port you will use in a year or two. We are happy to talk that trade-off through before you order.

Frequently asked questions

Questions we get asked about this inverter

Is the DC isolator really included?

Yes, factory fitted. That removes an enclosure, a set of glands and a potential water ingress point from every install.

What warranty do I get?

10 years as standard on this range, which is longer than most inverters at this price point offer without paying for an extension.

How small is it really?

295 × 230 × 113 mm — about the footprint of an A4 sheet — and 5.8 kg.

Do I have to use Clearline mounting with it?

No. It is a standard grid-tied inverter and works with any array. It is simply designed to complement the Clearline in-roof system.

Is AFCI included?

It is an option on this range. Specify it if arc-fault detection is required.

Can I add a battery?

Not directly — this is a grid-tied PV inverter. An AC-coupled battery alongside is the usual route.
