Huawei SUN2000 450W Smart PV Optimizer

Huawei SUN2000 450W Smart PV Optimizer is a Huawei SUN2000-450W-P2 power optimiser rated 450 W, for one PV module.

A power optimiser is a DC-DC converter that sits behind an individual PV module, between the module and the string. It tracks that one module's maximum power point continuously, so a module that is shaded, soiled, differently oriented or simply weaker than its neighbours no longer drags the whole string down to its own output. The optimiser then presents a fixed, well-behaved voltage to the string, which is what allows longer strings and mixed orientations on the same inverter.

Huawei's Smart PV Optimizer performs the same job inside a Huawei FusionSolar system, talking to the inverter over the DC power line using MBUS rather than a separate communication cable. A failed unit is bypassed by the string rather than taking the string with it.

Between 70 °C and 85 °C the optimiser may shut down on over-temperature protection and raise an alarm. It resumes on its own once the temperature falls, with no damage.

Huawei do not state a warranty term on this datasheet, so none is claimed here.

Before you order

  • UK only: this optimiser has been replaced by the 600 W version, the SUN2000-600W-P.
  • The SUN2000-450W-P2 and the MERC-1100/1300W-P must not be mixed under the same Smart Energy Controller or PV Controller.

The supplier copy on this listing claimed a maximum efficiency of 99.6 %. Huawei's own datasheet, version 02-202311, says 99.5 % maximum and 99.0 % weighted. The datasheet figure is used.

G98 covers installations up to 3.68kW per phase and is notified to your DNO after commissioning. Anything larger needs G99 approval agreed beforehand. We can flag which one your design falls under.

A hybrid inverter takes a DC-coupled battery directly. A standard string inverter needs an AC-coupled battery alongside it. The Technical Specifications show which type this unit is.

Yes, up to the maximum DC power figure in the specifications. Modest oversizing is normal practice - it lifts output in winter and at either end of the day, at the cost of brief clipping at midday peak.

An MPPT tracks the optimum operating point for a string of panels. You want one per roof orientation or pitch, because panels facing different directions on a single tracker drag each other down.
