Sunsynk MAX 16kW, 48Vdc Single Phase Classic Hybrid Inverter with WIFI included
Sunsynk MAX 16 kW — 16 kW and 290 A from a single-phase supply, with a 100 A passthrough.
A hybrid inverter does three jobs a string inverter cannot. It converts solar DC to AC; it charges and discharges a battery on the DC side, which avoids the double conversion an AC-coupled battery pays for; and when the grid fails it islands the site and keeps the essential-load output alive from the battery.

About the Sunsynk MAX 16 kW
The MAX is the largest single-phase inverter Sunsynk make: 16 kW rated, 20.8 kW of array across three trackers, and 290 A of battery charge and discharge. It exists for sites that need serious storage but have no three-phase supply to build it on.
Sunsynk build these around two output terminals rather than one: an essential-load output that stays live in a power cut, and a non-essential-load output that does not. That split is why the range is specified so often for sites that actually want to keep working through an outage rather than merely to store cheap electricity.
Which battery does this inverter take?
This inverter takes Low voltage, 40 – 60 V, lead-acid or lithium-ion.
This model has a battery voltage window of 40 – 60 V, a maximum charge or discharge current of 290 A, BMS communication over RS485; CAN.
This rule applies to the Sunsynk ECCO, Classic, Acure and MAX single phase, and the SG04LP3 three phase.
Charging strategy self-adapts to the battery BMS. Maximum charge and discharge current is model-specific and runs from 70 A on the 3 kW ECCO to 290 A on the 16 kW MAX.

String design, battery limits and what is in the box
The details that decide whether this unit suits the job:
- Battery is 48 V nominal, 40 – 60 V, 290 A maximum charge and discharge, external temperature sensor, BMS self-adaptation.
- At 290 A the DC side needs real attention: fuse and cable sizing, and the battery bank's own continuous rating, will decide the design before the inverter does.
- Three MPP trackers, two strings each, 26 A per tracker and 44 A Isc. 500 V maximum, 125 V start-up, 150 – 425 V MPPT window.
- Maximum PV input 20,800 W against a 16,000 W rating.
- Off-grid peak is twice rated power for 10 seconds. Maximum continuous AC passthrough is 100 A on the datasheet — note that our listing has quoted 150 A; the datasheet figure is the one in this table and we will confirm it with Sunsynk on request.
- 52 kg net and 60 kg gross, 464 × 763 × 282 mm. It is a two-person lift.
- Intelligent air cooling at under 50 dB, IP65, wall mounted.
Where this hybrid earns its place
The MAX 16 kW is specified most often for these jobs.
Things worth knowing about this listing
- Compatible with leading lithium battery brands including Hubble Lithium, Pylontech LV and Freedom Won.
- NRS 097 certified and City of Cape Town approved.
- The BMS cable is battery specific and is not included: SUN-CAN-3M for Pylontech, REVOV and Hubble Lithium, F-WON-CAN-SUN for Freedom Won. Ask us and we will send the right one with the inverter.
- Register the installation with Sunsynk within seven days of commissioning. Warranty registration after that window can be refused, and the cover made void.

Questions we get asked about this inverter
Can a single-phase supply really carry 16 kW?
For self-consumption and backup, yes — the inverter's 100 A passthrough and the DNO's limit on export are the two constraints to check before you specify it. Ask us and we will look at the G99 side with you.
What size fuses does the battery side need?
Sunsynk recommend a size 3 fuse holder with appropriately rated size 3 fuses on this inverter, because the DC currents are high.
What is the peak output?
Twice rated power for ten seconds, from the essential-load output.
Anything to watch when updating firmware?
Yes: put the inverter in bypass mode and turn the PV off first. Updating with PV live can damage it.
