Solis S6 Three Phase 40kW High Voltage Hybrid Inverter

Solis S6-EH3P(30-50)K-H — Two independently controlled battery ports, 140 A total, and up to 96 kW of usable PV.

A hybrid inverter does three jobs a string inverter cannot. It converts solar DC to AC; it charges and discharges a battery on the DC side, which avoids the double conversion an AC-coupled battery pays for; and when the grid fails it islands the site and keeps a backup circuit alive from the battery.

Overview

About the Solis S6-EH3P(30-50)K-H

At 30 to 50 kW this is commercial storage. The defining feature is the pair of independently controlled battery ports: 70 A each, 140 A together, which means two stacks can be charged and discharged separately rather than paralleled and hoped for. On a site that grows in phases that is the difference between adding a second stack and replacing the first.

PV input is generous — four trackers, eight strings at 20 A, up to 96 kW usable on the 50K — and the unit will run as a plain grid-tied inverter with no battery at all while a site waits for its storage.

Backup gives 1.6 times rated power for two seconds, enough for inductive starting, and up to six units run in parallel for 300 kW of backup load.

Battery compatibility

Which battery does this inverter take?

This inverter takes High voltage, roughly 120 – 800 V depending on model.

This model has a battery voltage window of 150 – 800 V, a maximum charge or discharge current of 70 A × 2, 140 A in parallel, BMS communication over CAN / RS485.

Battery option to select when commissioning: PYLON_HV for Pylontech; otherwise "Lithium Battery HV".

Models the manufacturer names as compatible: Pylontech Force-H1-V2, Force-H2-V2, Force-H3, PowerCube-M1C/M2/M3A-100/M3A-180/M5/M7, PowerCube-XH series and Pylontech M1; plus Pytes HV48100, Raystech, Renon Xtreme and others.

What we stock that fits this inverter:

Low voltage and high voltage batteries are not interchangeable. A 48 V battery cannot be used on a high-voltage hybrid and a high-voltage stack cannot be used on a low-voltage one, whatever a general compatibility list says, and no adapter changes that. Solis put it plainly on their own list: installing a non-compatible battery will void the inverter warranty. If you are not certain, ask us and we will check it against your part number before you order.
For the installer

String design, battery limits and what is in the box

The details that decide whether this unit suits the job:

  • Two battery ports, 70 A each. Each port takes 25 mm² cable. To draw the full 140 A from a single stack you must take the battery to a common busbar and run 25 mm² from the busbar to each port, then set 1 BAT 2 DC in the inverter's battery settings and connect BMS port 1.
  • Battery window is 150 – 800 V, lithium, CAN or RS485.
  • 30K has three MPP trackers at 40 A with two strings each, six strings total. The 40K and 50K have four trackers at 40 A, eight strings.
  • MPPT window 150 – 850 V, 1,000 V maximum, 180 V start-up.
  • Usable PV is 60 kW on the 30K, 80 kW on the 40K and 96 kW on the 50K.
  • AC passthrough is 91.2 A on the 30K rising to 152 A on the 50K — size the backup distribution for it.
  • Integrated DC switch is optional on this range, not fitted as standard. AFCI is fitted but requires activation.
  • 530 × 880 × 290 mm, 73 kg. It is a two-person lift and a fan-cooled unit at IP66.

A hybrid is the middle of a system, not the whole of it. These are the parts our customers add most often:

Frequently asked questions

Questions we get asked about this inverter

How do I get the full 140 A into one battery stack?

Take the stack's positive and negative to a common busbar, then run 25 mm² from that busbar to each of the two battery ports. Set 1 BAT 2 DC in the battery settings and use BMS port 1. Each port on its own is limited to 70 A and 25 mm².

Can I use two different battery stacks?

Yes — that is what the two independently controlled ports are for. Both stacks must still be on the Solis compatibility list and inside the 150 – 800 V window.

Is a DC isolator included?

The integrated DC switch is listed as optional on this range, so check the part you are quoting. An external DC isolator may be required for your DNO application.

Will it work without a battery?

Yes. On grid it operates as a normal grid-tied inverter, which is useful when the PV is commissioned before the storage arrives.
