About the Solis S5-GR3P Three Phase
Once a property has a three-phase supply — a farm, a workshop, a village hall, a large house on a rural network — three-phase generation is almost always the right answer. It balances the load across all three legs, which keeps the DNO happy, avoids the single-phase export limits that cap larger domestic systems, and usually makes a bigger array approvable.
The Solis S5-GR3P range covers 3 kW to 20 kW in twelve steps on one platform, with a 1,100 V maximum input and a 160 – 1,000 V MPPT window. That wide window is what allows long strings: fewer strings, less DC cable, fewer terminations, and a lower balance-of-system cost on a commercial roof.
All models are dual-tracker. Up to the 9 kW model each tracker takes 16 A across two strings; from 10 kW upward each takes 32 A across four. Efficiency climbs from 98.3 % to 98.7 % across the range, with EU-weighted figures of 97.7 % to 98.1 %.
String design, certification and what is in the box
The details that decide whether this unit suits the job:
- 1,100 V maximum system voltage with a 160 – 1,000 V MPPT range — long strings, fewer of them.
- Two trackers throughout; 2 strings per tracker to 9 kW, 4 strings per tracker from 10 kW.
- Integrated AFCI (activation required); integrated DC switch optional, and the SKUs we stock include it.
- Models to 9 kW are convection cooled and silent; 10 kW and above use intelligent redundant fan cooling.
- G98 or G99 certified, EN 50549-1, VDE-AR-N 4105. G100 export limitation certificates are attached where applicable.
Where this inverter earns its place
The S5-GR3P Three Phase is specified most often for these jobs.
Can I add a battery to this?
This is a grid-tied PV inverter. It converts solar DC into AC for the property and the grid, and it has no battery port. That is not a shortcoming — it is the right architecture for a system without storage, and it is why it costs what it does.
If storage is on the roadmap, you have two routes. Add an AC-coupled battery system alongside this inverter later, which works with any PV inverter and needs no change to what is already installed. Or choose a hybrid inverter now and pay for a battery port you will use in a year or two. We are happy to talk that trade-off through before you order.
Things worth knowing about this listing
- This inverter does not include a data logger, CT, meter or export power manager. The meter SOL-METER-3PH-CT3 is needed for export power control of a single inverter; for more than one inverter use the EPM3-5G-PLUS. The meter requires a data logging stick, while the EPM3-5G-PLUS has one built in. These items are sold separately.
- This product must be installed by a qualified electrician or technician. All installations must adhere to local wiring regulations and standards. ClearRay Solar will not be held liable for any product malfunctions as a result of incorrectly installed systems.

Questions we get asked about this inverter
Do I need a three-phase supply?
Yes. These inverters connect to a 3/N/PE supply. If you have single phase, look at the S6 range instead.
Why is a three-phase inverter better if I have three phase?
It spreads generation evenly over all three legs. A large single-phase inverter on a three-phase supply unbalances the network, which is exactly what DNO limits exist to prevent.
How long can my strings be?
Up to 1,000 V under the MPPT window and 1,100 V absolute, so typically 20 to 24 modern modules per string. Always calculate Voc at the lowest expected temperature, not at STC.
Is it noisy?
Up to 9 kW, no — convection cooled. From 10 kW there are fans, so keep it out of an office wall if you can.
Can I export-limit it?
Yes, and G100 certification is attached to the listings that carry it. Solis supports export power control natively.
Battery?
No. These are grid-tied PV inverters. For three-phase storage, talk to us about a hybrid or an AC-coupled system.
Documents, advice and trade pricing
Every datasheet, certificate, installation manual and warranty document we hold for this product is in the Documents tab below. See the rest of our inverter range and our solar panels, or email our sales team at sales@clearraysolar.com if you would like us to check a string design or a compatibility question before you order.
Three figures govern it, all in the Technical Specifications: the MPPT voltage range, the maximum input voltage and the maximum DC power. Tell us which panel you're pairing it with and we'll confirm the string layout.
G98 covers installations up to 3.68kW per phase and is notified to your DNO after commissioning. Anything larger needs G99 approval agreed beforehand. We can flag which one your design falls under.
A hybrid inverter takes a DC-coupled battery directly. A standard string inverter needs an AC-coupled battery alongside it. The Technical Specifications show which type this unit is.
Yes, up to the maximum DC power figure in the specifications. Modest oversizing is normal practice - it lifts output in winter and at either end of the day, at the cost of brief clipping at midday peak.
An MPPT tracks the optimum operating point for a string of panels. You want one per roof orientation or pitch, because panels facing different directions on a single tracker drag each other down.
The standard manufacturer warranty is listed under the Warranty tab. Extended cover is available on most brands - see Warranty Extensions.
