Three Phase Inverter, 30kW, MC4, DC safety unit with switch, AC & DC SPD, AC/DC Segregation
SolarEdge Three Phase Commercial SE20K – SE33.3K — 20 kW to 33.3 kW, with integrated Type II DC surge protection as standard.
This is SolarEdge's core commercial three-phase range and the one that turns up on most UK industrial roofs in the 20 kW to 33 kW band. It runs at a fixed 680 – 1,000 V operating window with a 1,000 V maximum, which gives long strings and 98.3 % peak efficiency.
About the SolarEdge Three Phase Commercial SE20K – SE33.3K
Two things distinguish it from the ranges below. Type II DC surge protection is integrated and field replaceable as standard, not an option — on an exposed commercial roof with long DC runs, that is the component that quietly earns its keep during a summer storm. And the optional DC Safety Unit provides 1,000 V / 48.25 A two-pole disconnection with optional 25 A or 30 A single-pole DC fuses inside the same enclosure.
Rapid shutdown is available as an option, triggering automatically on AC grid disconnect. Combined with SafeDC at the optimiser and integrated arc-fault protection, that gives a DC safety story most commercial insurers are comfortable with.
String design, certification and what is in the box
The details that decide whether this unit suits the job:
- Requires SolarEdge power optimisers on every module.
- 1,000 Vdc maximum, 680 – 1,000 Vdc operating window.
- Type II DC surge protection integrated and field replaceable as standard; AC Type II optional.
- Optional DC Safety Unit: 1,000 V / 48.25 A two-pole disconnection, optional 25 A / 30 A DC fuses, UTE-C15-712-1 compliant.
- Optional rapid shutdown (part numbers SExxK-xxRxxxxxx), automatic on AC grid disconnect.
- Two RS485 ports plus Ethernet; Wi-Fi and cellular optional.
- Note for German sites under VDE-AR-N-4110: the SE33.3K counts as a 30 kW inverter for site capacity, and current limits differ — check the datasheet footnotes.
Where this inverter earns its place
The Three Phase Commercial SE20K – SE33.3K is specified most often for these jobs.
Can I add a battery to this?
This is a grid-tied PV inverter. It converts solar DC into AC for the property and the grid, and it has no battery port. That is not a shortcoming — it is the right architecture for a system without storage, and it is why it costs what it does.
If storage is on the roadmap, you have two routes. Add an AC-coupled battery system alongside this inverter later, which works with any PV inverter and needs no change to what is already installed. Or choose a hybrid inverter now and pay for a battery port you will use in a year or two. We are happy to talk that trade-off through before you order.

Questions we get asked about this inverter
Is DC surge protection really needed?
On a commercial roof with hundreds of metres of DC cable, yes. Induced surges from nearby lightning are a leading cause of inverter failure on large arrays. Here it is fitted as standard and it is field replaceable, so a hit costs a part rather than an inverter.
What does the DC Safety Unit include?
Two-pole DC disconnection rated 1,000 V / 48.25 A, with optional single-pole 25 A or 30 A DC fuses, integrated into the inverter enclosure and compliant with UTE-C15-712-1.
Do I need optimisers?
Yes, on every module.
Can I export limit?
Yes, export limitation is part of the smart energy management feature set, and G99 is on the certification list.
What is the warranty?
12 years standard, extendable to 20.
