SolarEdge Home Hub Inverter, three phase RWB48 — Three-phase storage on a 48 V battery, DC coupled, with whole-house backup through the Backup Interface.
A hybrid inverter does three jobs a string inverter cannot. It converts solar DC to AC; it charges and discharges a battery on the DC side, which avoids the double conversion an AC-coupled battery pays for; and when the grid fails it can island the house and keep a backup circuit alive from the battery.
About the SolarEdge Home Hub Inverter, three phase RWB48
The three-phase Home Hub does the same job as its single-phase sibling on a three-phase supply, and takes a completely different battery: the 48 V BAT-05K48, one to five modules, rather than the 400 V unit. If you take one thing from this page, take that.
The architecture is DC coupled, so PV charges the battery directly without an AC conversion round trip, and the whole array runs at optimiser-level voltage rather than at high string voltage — which is what SolarEdge mean by eliminating high voltage during installation, maintenance and firefighting.
Backup is a separate purchase (the SE-SBI-3PH Backup Interface) and it is worth knowing what it does and does not do: the changeover is specified at under 10 seconds, not under 10 milliseconds, so this is a standby supply rather than an uninterruptible one.

- Every module needs a SolarEdge power optimiser, or a SolarEdge Smart Module with one built in. A SolarEdge inverter will not commission on a plain string of modules, and the optimiser also does the module-level monitoring and the rapid shutdown that the platform is bought for.
- Battery is the SolarEdge Home Battery 48V, BAT-05K48, one to five modules, 40 – 62 Vdc, 125 A continuous, 5 kW maximum charge or discharge, CAN. The single-phase Home Hub takes the 400 V battery instead. Ordering the wrong one is the expensive mistake on this platform.
- Backup needs the SolarEdge Home Backup Interface for the three-phase Home Hub (SE-SBI-3PH), bought separately.
- Changeover to backup is specified at under 10 seconds. Anything that cannot tolerate a ten-second break needs its own UPS.
- Backup output is lower than the on-grid rating: 4,500 VA on the 5 kW, 7,200 VA on the 8 kW and 9,000 VA on the 10 kW.
- Maximum allowed imbalance between phases in backup is 1.66 kW, 2.66 kW and 3 kW respectively.
- PV side is 900 V maximum, 750 V nominal, two MC4 pairs, up to 15 kW of modules on the 10 kW inverter.
- 907 mm tall, 317 mm wide, 192 mm deep and 37 kg, with internal and external fans at under 50 dBA. It is a two-person lift.
- Residual current detection is 300 mA with a 30 mA step detector.

Is the backup instant?
No. SolarEdge specify under 10 seconds for the three-phase Home Hub, not under 10 milliseconds. Lights, a fridge and a boiler will not care; a desktop PC or a server will reboot. Anything that must not break needs its own UPS.
What do I need for backup?
The SolarEdge Home Backup Interface for the three-phase Home Hub, part SE-SBI-3PH, bought separately.
Do I need optimisers?
Yes, one per module or a Smart Module with one built in. This is not an inverter that will run a plain string.
