SolarEdge Three Phase SE3K – SE10K — Three-phase generation at domestic scale, with no external fan.

Plenty of UK houses have a three-phase supply and no obvious three-phase inverter to match — the commercial ranges start too big and sound like a plant room. This range solves that: 3 kW to 10 kW, three phase, and quiet enough for a residential building because there is no external fan.

About the SolarEdge Three Phase SE3K – SE10K

Balancing generation across all three phases is not a technicality. A large single-phase inverter on a three-phase supply loads one leg and leaves two idle, which is exactly what DNO limits exist to prevent, and it is why a three-phase house often gets a bigger export allowance with a three-phase inverter.

As with all SolarEdge, the array runs on power optimisers, so the inverter sees a fixed 750 V and string length stops being a design constraint. A 900 V maximum input with fixed voltage operation means long strings without the temperature-corrected Voc arithmetic a conventional string inverter demands.

Battery and storage

Can I add a battery to this?

This is a grid-tied PV inverter. It converts solar DC into AC for the property and the grid, and it has no battery port. That is not a shortcoming — it is the right architecture for a system without storage, and it is why it costs what it does.

If storage is on the roadmap, you have two routes. Add an AC-coupled battery system alongside this inverter later, which works with any PV inverter and needs no change to what is already installed. Or choose a hybrid inverter now and pay for a battery port you will use in a year or two. We are happy to talk that trade-off through before you order.

Things worth knowing about this listing

These notes come from us and from the manufacturer, and they are the ones that most often cause a problem after delivery:
  • UK only: this inverter is tested and certified to G98 or G99 only with the most recent firmware version. Update the inverter firmware during the SetApp commissioning process, as set out in the installation manual.
  • This inverter does not have a display. It is the new Comms Board version, and set-up and commissioning are done with the SolarEdge SetApp mobile application.

Why three phase for a house?

If your supply is three phase, spreading generation across all three legs keeps the network balanced, and DNOs generally allow more capacity as a result. It also means a larger array is approvable than single phase would allow.

Is it noisy?

No external fan on this range, which is the point of it. It can go in a utility room or garage without complaint.

Do I need optimisers?

Yes, on every module. That is the SolarEdge architecture.

Battery?

This range is a PV inverter. For three-phase storage, the Home Hub Three Phase platform is the route — ask us.
