myenergi libbi Hybrid Inverter 5kW

myenergi libbi Hybrid Inverter 5kW

myenergi libbi — The hybrid that already speaks zappi and eddi — AC or DC coupled, 5 kWh at a time.

A hybrid inverter does three jobs a string inverter cannot. It converts solar DC to AC; it charges and discharges a battery on the DC side, which avoids the double conversion an AC-coupled battery pays for; and, with the right hardware alongside it, it can keep part of the house alive when the grid fails.

Overview

About the myenergi libbi

libbi is myenergi's answer for a house that already has, or will have, their other kit. Stored energy can be prioritised to the house, to an eddi diverting to the hot water cylinder, or to a zappi charging the car, and all of it is set from the same app rather than from three.

It works AC coupled or DC coupled, which is the practical reason to choose it: a house with an existing PV system keeps its inverter and adds libbi alongside, while a new install can put the array straight into libbi's two MPP trackers and skip a second inverter entirely.

Storage is modular at 5 kWh a module, up to four modules and 20 kWh, and there is an optional blackout backup output for a dedicated socket or lighting circuit.

Battery compatibility

Which battery does this inverter take?

This inverter takes myenergi libbi battery modules.

This rule applies to the myenergi libbi hybrid inverter, 3.68 kW and 5 kW.

5 kWh per module, up to four modules for 20 kWh. Works AC or DC coupled, so it can take a new PV array directly or retrofit alongside an existing one.

What we stock that fits this inverter:

Low voltage and high voltage batteries are not interchangeable. A 48 V battery cannot be used on a high-voltage hybrid and a high-voltage stack cannot be used on a low-voltage one, whatever a general compatibility list says, and no adapter changes that. Solis put it plainly on their own list: installing a non-compatible battery will void the inverter warranty. If you are not certain, ask us and we will check it against your part number before you order.
For the installer

String design, battery limits and what is in the box

The details that decide whether this unit suits the job:

  • A libbi system is not one box. It is this inverter, at least one 5 kWh battery module, the cable expansion kit that matches the stack size, and the libbi controller. All four are sold separately.
  • Battery is 48 V nominal, 40 – 60 V charging window, LFP, 100 – 400 Ah, with the charging strategy set by the BMS.
  • Charge and discharge current: 50 A charge and 80 A discharge on the 3.68 kW; 100 A both ways on the 5 kW.
  • With a single battery module the charge and discharge power is limited to 2,825 W / 4,000 W. Two to four modules raise it to 3,000 W / 4,000 W on the 3.68 kW and 4,600 W / 5,000 W on the 5 kW.
  • Two MPP trackers, one string each, 15 A per tracker and 18 A Isc. 580 V maximum DC, 150 V start-up, 80 – 560 V MPPT window.
  • Recommended maximum PV is per string: 2,400 W per MPPT on the 3.68 kW and 3,750 W per MPPT on the 5 kW.
  • The backup output is a dedicated circuit, not the whole house: 4,000 VA on the 3.68 kW and 5,000 VA on the 5 kW, with a 6,900 VA peak for 10 seconds. Additional installation work usually applies.
  • 540 × 590 × 240 mm, 32 kg, IP65, convection cooled at under 25 dB, with a bipolar DC switch fitted.
Applications

Where this hybrid earns its place

The libbi is specified most often for these jobs.

Houses with a zappi or eddiStored energy is prioritised across the myenergi devices.
Retrofit onto an existing PV systemAC coupled, so the existing inverter stays.
New solar plus storageDC coupled through two MPP trackers, no second inverter.
Time-of-use and dynamic tariffsGrid charging optimised around the tariff.
Storage without solar at alllibbi will run as a grid-charged battery on its own.
A backed-up circuit rather than a backed-up houseOptional blackout backup to a socket or lighting circuit.

Things worth knowing about this listing

These notes come from us and from the manufacturer, and they are the ones that most often cause a problem after delivery:
  • A libbi system is four parts: this inverter, at least one 5 kWh battery module, the cable expansion kit for that stack size, and the libbi controller. The inverter on its own will not store anything.

Ordered with this inverter more often than anything else

A hybrid is the middle of a system, not the whole of it. These are the parts our customers add most often:

Frequently asked questions

Questions we get asked about this inverter

What do I actually need to order?

The inverter, at least one 5 kWh battery module, the cable expansion kit for the stack you are building, and the libbi controller. We stock all of them; the links on this page are the parts that go with this inverter.

Can I use it without solar?

Yes. libbi will charge from the grid on a time-of-use or dynamic tariff and discharge into the house, which is a common install where a roof will not take an array.

Does it work with my existing solar?

Yes, AC coupled — the existing inverter stays where it is. If you are starting from scratch you can DC couple the array into libbi's own MPP trackers instead.

What will the backup output run?

A dedicated socket or lighting circuit, not the whole house: 4,000 VA on the 3.68 kW and 5,000 VA on the 5 kW, with a short 6,900 VA peak. It usually needs extra wiring at install.

How much storage can I have?

Four modules, 20 kWh. Note that a single module limits charge and discharge power; two or more releases the inverter's full figure.
