K2 InsertionRail 2.0 Mounting Rail 5.70m for 30mm Frames
Product details
K2 InsertionRail 2.0 Solar Mounting Rail, 5.70m
This is the rail the rest of the InsertionRail 2.0 system hangs off: 5.70 m of profile, 6.5 kg, cut for 30 mm module frames.
It works differently from a clamped system. Instead of sitting on top of the rail and being pinned by a clamp at each edge, the module slides into a channel in the rail. Nothing stands proud of the panel, which is why it turns up on facades and on roofs where the array is meant to be seen as little as possible.
Why insert rather than clamp
A clamped array has a visible fixing every half metre along every row. An insert system has none – the edge of the glass disappears into the rail, and with the cover fitted the run reads as one line. That is the whole argument for it, and it is an aesthetic one rather than a structural one.
The trade comes at installation. Modules feed in from the end of the run rather than dropping in from above, so the sequence matters more, and a single panel cannot be lifted out of the middle of a row without working back to it.
Check the frame height
The 30 is the module frame height in millimetres, and unlike a clamp it does not adjust. A panel with a 35 mm frame will not enter this rail. Take the frame height off the module datasheet before ordering, and order the cover in the same size.
Length and delivery
At 5.70 m this is among the longest single lengths K2 make, which means fewer splices across a wide array and a straighter finished line. It also means a pallet: no parcel carrier will take it, so it arrives kerbside and someone has to be there to receive it.
What you also need
The rail is supplied on its own. A working run needs the parts below, all ordered separately.
- CrossConnector T sets, to fix this rail to the K2 mounting rail underneath
- A FixStop to hold the rail position, and an EndStop at each end of the row
- A RailConnector for every joint, where the row runs past 5.70 m
- The Cover 30, to close the channel once the modules are in
- The K2 mounting rail and the roof fixings beneath it all
Order alongside
-
K2 InsertionRail 2.0 CrossConnector T Set
Fixes this rail to any K2 mounting rail, with the screws outside so it still slides when squaring up.
-
K2 InsertionRail 2.0 FixStop
Holds the rail where you put it, once the connectors let it move.
-
K2 InsertionRail 2.0 EndStop
Terminates each end of the row and gives you a datum to set out from.
-
K2 InsertionRail 2.0 RailConnector
One per joint, where the array is wider than a single 5.70 m length.
-
K2 InsertionRail 2.0 Cover 30, 2.85m
The trim that closes the channel, in white or black anodised. Two covers to one rail.
Questions on the InsertionRail 2.0
Only if the frame is 30 mm deep. That figure is on the module datasheet, usually as frame height or module thickness. There is no adjustment in an insert rail.
The covers are 2.85 m, so two of them run the length of one 5.70 m rail.
K2 give facade as well as pitched roof as the scope of application for the InsertionRail 2.0 system, which is one of the reasons the insert approach gets specified.
Not without working in from the end of the run. Modules feed in from the end rather than dropping in from above, which is the trade-off for the clean finish.
On a pallet, kerbside. At 5.70 m it is well past what a parcel carrier will handle.
