The Growatt MIC TL-X is a single-MPPT single-phase inverter for small arrays, and it is deliberately minimal: 274 × 254 × 138 mm, 6 kg, natural convection, IP65. There is no fan to fail and nothing to service.

Overview

About the Growatt MIC TL-X

Its useful trick is the 50 V start-up voltage on the smaller models, which is very low. On a six-panel array facing anything other than due south, that low threshold is what gets the inverter generating in the first and last hours of daylight rather than sitting idle.

The models we stock are specified with arc-fault protection and an integrated DC isolator. AFCI detects the DC arcing that causes rooftop fires and shuts the inverter down — a feature that is optional across most of this class and is worth having on any roof-mounted DC installation.

String design, certification and what is in the box

The details that decide whether this unit suits the job:

  • One MPP tracker, one string, 13 A input and 16 A Isc across the whole range.
  • The MIC 750 to MIC 2000 have a 500 V maximum and a 50 – 500 V MPPT window; the MIC 2500 and above have 550 V and a 65 – 550 V window.
  • A DC switch is fitted on the SKUs whose part code ends −AFP-DC; the SKUs ending −AFP are the non-DC version. AFCI is specified on every MIC TL-X SKU we stock.
  • AC/DC surge protection Type III / Type III.
  • Certified to G98, C10/C11, VDE-AR-N 4105, EN 50549, CEI 0-21 and AS 4777.
  • OLED + LED display with Wi-Fi and app; RS485 and USB standard, Wi-Fi/GPRS/RF/LAN optional.

Battery and storage

Can I add a battery to this?

This is a grid-tied PV inverter. It converts solar DC into AC for the property and the grid, and it has no battery port. That is not a shortcoming — it is the right architecture for a system without storage, and it is why it costs what it does.

If storage is on the roadmap, you have two routes. Add an AC-coupled battery system alongside this inverter later, which works with any PV inverter and needs no change to what is already installed. Or choose a hybrid inverter now and pay for a battery port you will use in a year or two. We are happy to talk that trade-off through before you order.

  • To achieve the anti-reflux (export limitation) function on the TL-X and TL-XE range you must use the Growatt SPM-E meter. A CT clamp cannot do it. Contact us for details.

Frequently asked questions

Questions we get asked about this inverter

What does AFCI actually do?

It listens for the electrical signature of a DC arc — the kind caused by a loose MC4 connector or damaged cable — and shuts the inverter down before it can start a fire. DC arcs do not self-extinguish the way AC arcs do, which is why this matters on the DC side specifically.

Is the DC isolator included?

Yes, the DC switch is standard on this range and the SKUs we stock are the DC versions.

One tracker — is that enough?

For a single unshaded orientation, yes. For a split or shaded roof, look at the MIN TL-X range with two trackers.

Can I add a battery?

No. The MIC TL-X is grid-tied only. Growatt's MIN TL-XH range is the hybrid equivalent.

What warranty?
