FOX ESS H3 8.0KW 3PH Hybrid Inverter with 3PH CT Meter

Fox ESS · H3 Series

FOX ESS H3 8.0KW 3PH Hybrid Inverter with 3PH CT Meter

Fox ESS H3 Series — Three-phase hybrid storage from 8 kW to 12 kW, supplied with the CT meter.

If the house has a three-phase supply, a three-phase hybrid is almost always the right answer. It balances generation and battery discharge across all three legs, which is what DNOs care about, and it means the backup output can serve three-phase loads rather than only one leg.

Overview

About the Fox ESS H3 Series

The H3 covers 8 kW and 12 kW in the models we stock, with a 1,000 V DC side and a 160 – 950 V MPPT window. Two independent trackers with two strings on the first and one on the second handle a split roof, and the 26 A first tracker takes modern high-current modules.

The SKUs we list include the three-phase CT meter, which the inverter needs for consumption monitoring and export control. On many competitors that is a separate line item.

Battery compatibility

Which battery does this inverter take?

This inverter takes High voltage Fox ESS stacks.

This model has a battery voltage window of 180 – 600 V, a maximum charge or discharge current of 26.0 A, BMS communication over CAN to the inverter.

A stack is one master module, which carries the BMS, plus matching slave modules of the same type. Module types are never mixed in one stack. These are the counts this inverter is listed for — Product Compatibility Fox ESS UK 2026, the module count range for this inverter family:

Battery modules this inverter accepts
CQ72 to 12 modules — 14.04 to 84.24 kWh
EQ50003 to 6 modules — 14.76 to 29.52 kWh
EQ48003 to 9 modules — 13.98 to 41.94 kWh
EQ29003 to 7 modules — 8.64 to 20.16 kWh
ECS48003 to 7 modules — 14.22 to 33.18 kWh
ECS4300 / EC43003 to 7 modules — 12.42 to 28.98 kWh
ECS41003 to 7 modules — 12.09 to 28.21 kWh
ECS29003 to 7 modules — 8.64 to 20.16 kWh
EP5 / EP61 to 4 modules — 5.18 to 20.72 kWh
EP11 / EP121 to 4 modules — 11.52 to 46.08 kWh

What we stock that fits this inverter:

Fox high-voltage modules are not mixed: a stack is one type, one master and the matching slaves, and the module count must sit inside the range above for this inverter. A Fox low-voltage battery (LV52) will not work on any of these inverters, and a high-voltage stack will not work on a low-voltage one.
For the installer

String design, battery limits and what is in the box

The details that decide whether this unit suits the job:

  • Battery window 180 – 600 V, LFP, 26 A maximum charge or discharge, CAN plus RS485 for BMS upgrades.
  • Two MPP trackers. Tracker A takes 26 A across two strings, tracker B takes 14 A on one — they are not symmetrical, so check the string design against the right input.
  • 1,000 V maximum DC, 720 V rated, 160 V start-up, 160 – 950 V MPPT window.
  • AC input up to 16 kVA for grid charging.
  • EPS peak is notably generous: 14 kVA on the 8 kW and 15 kVA on the 12 kW, for 60 seconds.
  • DC switch fitted. Surge protection Type II on both sides. AFCI optional.
  • The three-phase CT meter is included with the SKUs we stock.
  • 449 × 519 × 198 mm, 28 kg, IP65, fan cooled at 45 dB on these models.
Applications

Where this hybrid earns its place

The H3 Series is specified most often for these jobs.

Three-phase houses with storageBalanced generation and discharge across all three legs.
Three-phase backupEPS serves three-phase loads, not just one leg.
Larger domestic and light commercial8 kW to 12 kW with up to 15 kW of PV.
Split roofsTwo trackers, asymmetric current ratings.
Off-peak tariff charging16 kVA AC input.

Things worth knowing about this listing

These notes come from us and from the manufacturer, and they are the ones that most often cause a problem after delivery:
  • Fox ESS inverters are NOT compatible with SolarEdge or Huawei power optimisers. They are compatible with Tigo optimisers.
  • Register the installation with Fox ESS at fox-ess.com to activate the 10-year warranty. Unregistered, the cover is 5 years.

Frequently asked questions

Questions we get asked about this inverter

Why is one tracker 26 A and the other 14 A?

Fox size tracker A for two strings and tracker B for one. Put the larger sub-array on A. It is a common source of underperformance when the array is wired the other way round.

Is the meter really included?

Yes, on the SKUs we stock — the title says 'with 3PH CT Meter'. It is required for consumption monitoring and export limitation.

What does the EPS run?

8,000 VA continuous on the 8 kW model with a 14,000 VA peak for 60 seconds, across three phases. That headroom is what starts motors.

Which battery?

A Fox high voltage stack in the 180 – 600 V window. Check module count against Fox's compatibility matrix for the H3 family — the CQ7 range is 2 to 12 modules.

Is it noisy?

These models are fan cooled at about 45 dB. Site it in a garage or plant space rather than next to a bedroom.

Have questions?

Three figures govern it, all in the Technical Specifications: the MPPT voltage range, the maximum input voltage and the maximum DC power. Tell us which panel you're pairing it with and we'll confirm the string layout.

G98 covers installations up to 3.68kW per phase and is notified to your DNO after commissioning. Anything larger needs G99 approval agreed beforehand. We can flag which one your design falls under.

A hybrid inverter takes a DC-coupled battery directly. A standard string inverter needs an AC-coupled battery alongside it. The Technical Specifications show which type this unit is.

Yes, up to the maximum DC power figure in the specifications. Modest oversizing is normal practice - it lifts output in winter and at either end of the day, at the cost of brief clipping at midday peak.

An MPPT tracks the optimum operating point for a string of panels. You want one per roof orientation or pitch, because panels facing different directions on a single tracker drag each other down.

The standard manufacturer warranty is listed under the Warranty tab. Extended cover is available on most brands - see Warranty Extensions.
