Fox ESS Fox H1 3.0kW Hybrid Inverter with EPS 1PH Gen 2

Fox ESS · H1 Series (Gen 2) with EPS

Fox H1 3.0kW Hybrid Inverter with EPS 1PH Gen 2

Fox ESS H1 Series (Gen 2) with EPS — The volume single-phase hybrid: 16 A per tracker, 40 A battery, ten in parallel.

The G2 is the current H1 and the changes over the original are all in the places that constrain a design. DC current per tracker goes from 12.5 A to 16 A, which is what modern 450 W and larger modules need. The battery window widens to 80 – 480 V and battery current rises to 40 A, so the stack charges and discharges faster. And up to ten units can run in parallel, which takes the platform well past a single house.

Overview

About the Fox ESS H1 Series (Gen 2) with EPS

Backup is the reason most people buy a hybrid, and the G2 is honest about it: EPS output matches the rated AC power, with a 60-second peak roughly 20 % above that, and switchover in under 20 milliseconds. That is fast enough that a desktop computer does not reboot.

Round-trip matters more than headline efficiency on a hybrid, and Fox publish both halves: 98.5 % PV to battery and 97.0 % battery to AC at full load.

Battery compatibility

Which battery does this inverter take?

This inverter takes High voltage Fox ESS stacks.

This model has a battery voltage window of 80 – 480 V, a maximum charge or discharge current of 40 A, BMS communication over CAN.

A stack is one master module, which carries the BMS, plus matching slave modules of the same type. Module types are never mixed in one stack. These are the counts this inverter is listed for — Product Compatibility Fox ESS UK 2026, the module count range for this inverter family:

Battery modules this inverter accepts
CQ72 to 7 modules — 14.04 to 49.14 kWh
EQ50002 to 6 modules — 9.84 to 29.52 kWh
EQ48002 to 9 modules — 9.32 to 41.94 kWh
EQ29002 to 7 modules — 5.76 to 20.16 kWh
ECS48002 to 7 modules — 9.48 to 33.18 kWh
ECS4300 / EC43002 to 7 modules — 8.28 to 28.98 kWh
ECS41002 to 7 modules — 8.06 to 28.21 kWh
ECS29002 to 7 modules — 5.76 to 20.16 kWh
EP5 / EP61 to 4 modules — 5.18 to 20.72 kWh
EP11 / EP121 to 4 modules — 11.52 to 46.08 kWh

What we stock that fits this inverter:

Fox high-voltage modules are not mixed: a stack is one type, one master and the matching slaves, and the module count must sit inside the range above for this inverter. A Fox low-voltage battery (LV52) will not work on any of these inverters, and a high-voltage stack will not work on a low-voltage one.
For the installer

String design, battery limits and what is in the box

The details that decide whether this unit suits the job:

  • Battery window 80 – 480 V, LFP, 40 A maximum charge or discharge, CAN.
  • Two MPP trackers, one string each, 16 A per tracker and 20 A Isc. 600 V maximum DC, 75 V start-up.
  • Note the per-tracker input power split: on the 3.0 kW it is 2,250 W per tracker, rising to 4,500 W per tracker on the 6.0 kW. The array must be balanced across both.
  • Up to 10 units in parallel. EPS switch time under 20 ms.
  • DC switch and battery wake-up are fitted; AFCI is optional. SPD is DC Type II / AC Type III.
  • The 3.7 kW model is 3,680 VA for G98; 4,048 VA otherwise.
  • 434 × 418 × 185 mm, 22 kg, IP65, natural cooling, 35 dB.
Applications

Where this hybrid earns its place

The H1 Series (Gen 2) with EPS is specified most often for these jobs.

Standard UK solar plus storage3.7 kW and 5.0 kW cover most house roofs and most batteries.
Whole-circuit backupEPS matched to rated power with a 60-second peak above it.
Split and shaded roofsTwo trackers, 16 A each.
Time-of-use tariff optimisationCharge from grid overnight where the tariff pays.
Larger homes and light commercialUp to ten units in parallel.
Retrofit to an existing arrayReplaces a string inverter and adds storage in one change.

Things worth knowing about this listing

These notes come from us and from the manufacturer, and they are the ones that most often cause a problem after delivery:
  • CT clamps and a Wi-Fi stick are included in the box.
  • A second CT clamp is required if the property has another generation source on the same supply — another PV system, wind or CHP.
  • A meter is required where the cable run between the inverter and the incoming supply position is more than 30 m.
  • Register the installation with Fox ESS at fox-ess.com to activate the 10-year warranty. Unregistered, the cover is 5 years.

Frequently asked questions

Questions we get asked about this inverter

What can the backup output actually run?

The EPS matches the inverter's rated power — 5,000 VA on the H1-5.0 — with a 60-second peak of 6,000 VA for motor starting. That covers a fridge, freezer, lighting, boiler, router and sockets comfortably. An electric shower or a heat pump on full output does not fit.

How fast does it switch over?

Under 20 milliseconds. Most equipment does not notice.

Do I need optimisers?

No. This is a conventional two-tracker hybrid; put each roof plane on its own tracker.

Which battery does it take?

Fox ESS high voltage stacks inside the 80 – 480 V window. The module count depends on the battery family — Fox publish a matrix, and we list the CQ7 ranges on the battery pages.

Can I run more than one?

Yes, up to ten in parallel.

What warranty?

5 years as standard, 10 years if you register the installation with Fox ESS online. Registration is not automatic — it has to be done.
