Fox ESS 3.6kW F Series (G3) 1PH Dual Tracker PV Inverter
Fox ESS 3.6kW F Series (G3) 1PH Dual Tracker PV Inverter
Fox ESS F Series (G3) — 20 A per tracker and 97.6 % peak — sized for today's modules, not yesterday's.
The G3 is the current generation of Fox ESS's dual-tracker single-phase inverter, and the headline change is DC current: 20 A per tracker against 12.5 A on the original F Series. That matters because module current has climbed steadily — a modern 450 W to 500 W panel produces meaningfully more current than the 330 W panels these ranges were originally designed around, and bifacial modules more again.
About the Fox ESS F Series (G3)
The MPPT window has widened too, to 60 – 550 V, with the full-load window starting between 90 V and 160 V depending on model. In practice that gives more freedom on short strings, which is exactly what a small or awkward roof needs.
Efficiency is 97.6 % peak with a 99.9 % MPPT efficiency, and the unit adds a night mode that trades a little standby draw for faster wake-up. It is 358 × 335 × 155 mm and under 9.5 kg — noticeably smaller and lighter than the range it replaces.
String design, certification and what is in the box
The details that decide whether this unit suits the job:
- Two MPP trackers, 20 A each, 26 A Isc each — sized for high-current and bifacial modules.
- 1+1 strings per tracker, 600 V maximum input, 60 – 550 V MPPT window.
- Zero backfeed current to the array, and Type II surge protection on both DC and AC sides.
- DC switch, AFCI and night mode are all options; specify against the job.
- Derating begins at +45 °C ambient — think about direct summer sun on a south wall.
- Internal Wi-Fi as standard, with external Wi-Fi, 4G or LAN modules optional.
Where this inverter earns its place
The F Series (G3) is specified most often for these jobs.
Can I add a battery to this?
This is a grid-tied PV inverter. It converts solar DC into AC for the property and the grid, and it has no battery port. That is not a shortcoming — it is the right architecture for a system without storage, and it is why it costs what it does.
If storage is on the roadmap, you have two routes. Add an AC-coupled battery system alongside this inverter later, which works with any PV inverter and needs no change to what is already installed. Or choose a hybrid inverter now and pay for a battery port you will use in a year or two. We are happy to talk that trade-off through before you order.
Things worth knowing about this listing
- You must register the installation with Fox ESS online to activate the 10 year product warranty. Without registration it is 5 years as standard. See the warranty document in the Documents tab for the registration link and the full terms.

Questions we get asked about this inverter
Why choose G3 over the original F Series?
Higher DC current per tracker (20 A vs 12.5 A), a wider MPPT window, higher peak efficiency and a smaller, lighter case. If your modules are modern high-current panels, the G3 is the one that will not constrain the design.
What is night mode?
It keeps part of the unit awake overnight so it starts generating sooner at dawn, at the cost of standby draw rising from under 1 W to under 3 W. It is an option, and on a UK site the trade is usually worth it.
Does it derate in hot weather?
Derating starts at +45 °C ambient. In UK conditions that is rarely reached, but avoid mounting it in direct sun on a south-facing wall if you can.
Is AFCI included?
It is an option on this range rather than standard.
Battery?
The G3 F Series is a grid-tied PV inverter. For storage, look at the Fox hybrid ranges or plan an AC-coupled battery.
