Fox ESS CQ16 commercial storage — 16.07 kWh a module, four modules minimum, 723.15 kWh at full commercial scale.

Commercial storage is a different problem from domestic storage. The question is not whether the evening peak can be covered but how much of the site's load profile can be shifted, and that means capacity measured in hundreds of kilowatt-hours rather than tens.

About the Fox ESS CQ16 commercial storage

The CQ16 is Fox's answer: 16.07 kWh a module at 51.2 V and 314 Ah, with 240 A maximum charge and discharge and a 470 A peak for a full minute. It is the largest module Fox make and it exists for the H3 Plus.

It is not sold as a single battery. The smallest system is four modules and one BMS box — 64.28 kWh — and the largest is 45 modules across three BMS boxes, 723.15 kWh. No single stack takes more than fifteen modules in series.

Unlike the rest of the Fox range this is an indoor product: IP20, floor mounted, with intelligent air cooling rather than natural convection.

The CQ16 is not a master-and-slave stack like the domestic Fox modules. It is a cabinet system: four modules minimum, a separate BMS box, and the H3 Plus series only. It will not run on any other Fox inverter, and a CQ16 will not be mixed into a CQ7, EQ or ECS stack.

The details that decide whether this battery suits the system:

  • Minimum system: 4 × CQ16 and 1 BMS box, 64.28 kWh. Maximum: 45 × CQ16 and 3 BMS boxes, 723.15 kWh.
  • Maximum fifteen modules in series per stack. The rated energy range for one stack is 64.28 to 241.05 kWh.
  • The BMS box is a separate order — it is not part of this listing.
  • 51.2 V nominal a module, 46.4 – 58.4 V operating, 314 Ah. 157 A recommended discharge, 240 A maximum, 470 A peak for 60 seconds.
  • Only compatible with the H3 Plus series. It will not run on an H1, KH, H3, H3 Smart or H3 Pro.
  • Indoor only: IP20, intelligent air cooling, floor mounted. Charge 0 to 55 °C, discharge −10 to 55 °C.
  • 390 × 235 × 810 mm and about 128 kg a module. Plan the floor loading and the route in.
  • Round-trip efficiency is quoted above 92 %, lower than the domestic Fox modules, and cycle life is 6,000 at 0.5 C and 90 % depth of discharge to 70 % state of health.

Can I buy one?

You can, but one will not make a system. Fox's minimum is four modules and a BMS box. Tell us the inverter and the target capacity and we will quote the whole set.

Does it work with my H3 Pro?

No. The CQ16 is compatible with the H3 Plus series only.

Is the BMS box included?

No, it is ordered separately. One BMS box covers a stack; a 45-module system needs three.

Can it go outside?

No. It is IP20 and indoor only, with intelligent air cooling.

How much can I use?

14.46 kWh a module, at a 90 % depth of discharge.
