About the Enphase IQ communications
Inside the installation, the IQ Gateway Metered has to talk to the IQ Battery 5P. The Communications Kit 2 is the wired way of doing that, using control cables rather than depending on anything wireless — which is the right choice wherever the two are far apart or the building is unhelpful.
Outside it, the system has to reach Enphase. The Mobile Connect cellular modem provides that over high-speed cellular, with a five-year pre-paid data plan and multiple network options, so it falls back rather than failing when one network is weak.
