About the Solis S6 Mini
Most UK roofs that get turned down for solar are turned down for the same reason: one usable pitch, room for six or eight panels, and a quote built around an inverter designed for twice that array. The Solis S6 Mini exists for exactly those roofs. It is a single-MPPT, single-phase string inverter in seven power steps from 0.7 kW to 3.6 kW, so the inverter can be sized to the array rather than the array sized to the inverter.
The engineering that matters here is at the bottom of the power curve, not the top. A 60 V start-up voltage on the smaller models and an MPPT window that opens at 50 V means the inverter is awake and exporting on a dull February morning, when a higher-threshold unit is still sitting at zero. Over a UK year that low-light behaviour is worth more than a tenth of a percent on peak efficiency.
It is also genuinely small — 310 × 373 × 160 mm and 7.4 kg — which matters more than the spec sheet suggests. It goes on a garage wall, in a loft, or in a cupboard without a second pair of hands, and it is rated IP66 so it can equally live outside.
String design, certification and what is in the box
The details that decide whether this unit suits the job:
- Integrated AFCI (activation required) and an optional integrated DC switch — the SKUs we stock are the DC-isolator versions, so there is no separate isolator to buy, mount and wire.
- G98 and G99 certified, with EN 50549-1 and VDE-AR-N 4105 on the same sheet, so the DNO paperwork is straightforward on either route.
- Integrated Export Power Manager, so an export limit can be set without an external EPM box.
- RS485 as standard with Wi-Fi and GPRS dataloggers optional, all reporting into SolisCloud.
Where this inverter earns its place
The S6 Mini is specified most often for these jobs.
Can I add a battery to this?
This is a grid-tied PV inverter. It converts solar DC into AC for the property and the grid, and it has no battery port. That is not a shortcoming — it is the right architecture for a system without storage, and it is why it costs what it does.
If storage is on the roadmap, you have two routes. Add an AC-coupled battery system alongside this inverter later, which works with any PV inverter and needs no change to what is already installed. Or choose a hybrid inverter now and pay for a battery port you will use in a year or two. We are happy to talk that trade-off through before you order.
Things worth knowing about this listing
- This inverter does not include a data logger or CT. For a single-inverter installation use CT SOL-CT-100A-10M; for more than one inverter use the EPM1. The CT requires a separate data logger. These items are sold separately.

Questions we get asked about this inverter
Will this work on a north-east or north-west facing roof?
Yes, and the low start-up voltage is why. It will not turn a poor roof into a good one, but it will harvest the shoulders of the day that a higher-threshold inverter misses.
One MPPT — does that limit me?
It limits you to one orientation and one string. If your array is split across two pitches, or is partly shaded, choose the dual-MPPT S6 range instead and put each pitch on its own tracker.
Does it come with a DC isolator?
The models we stock do, integrated in the unit. That removes a separate enclosure from the install and a component from the bill.
Is it G99 approved?
Yes. G98 and G99 certificates are attached to this listing in the Documents tab, along with the EN 50549-1 declaration.
Can I add a battery later?
Not to this inverter — it is grid-tied only, with no battery port. You would either add an AC-coupled battery system alongside it, or replace it with a hybrid. We are happy to talk that through before you buy.
What warranty comes with it?
Five years as standard, extendable to 10, 15 or 20 years. Registration terms are in the Solis warranty document attached to this listing.
