About the Solis 5G PRO Commercial Three Phase
The 5G PRO is Solis's answer to the same shift the S6-GC addresses — large-format cells and higher string currents — from the previous platform generation. Where it wins is on cost per installed kilowatt: it takes 16 to 18 A per string, supports aluminium AC cable, and accepts a DC/AC ratio above 150 %, all of which pull money out of the balance of system rather than out of the inverter.
Six or eight MPP trackers, a 160 – 1,000 V MPPT window and a 1,100 V system voltage give the design freedom that a commercial roof needs, and the night SVG function lets the unit provide reactive power support after dark, which some DNO connection agreements now ask for.
It is IP66, fan cooled, and carries an integrated DC switch as standard, so it lands on site ready to wire.
String design, certification and what is in the box
The details that decide whether this unit suits the job:
- 6 or 8 MPP trackers; 12 or 16 strings; 36 A / 32 A alternating per tracker.
- Integrated DC switch as standard; AFCI available (activation required).
- Aluminium AC cable supported — a material saving at 110 kW.
- Night SVG function for reactive power support outside generating hours.
- DC side supports Y connectors. Optional power line communication.
- Certified to G99 and IEC 61727.
Where this inverter earns its place
The 5G PRO Commercial Three Phase is specified most often for these jobs.
Can I add a battery to this?
This is a grid-tied PV inverter. It converts solar DC into AC for the property and the grid, and it has no battery port. That is not a shortcoming — it is the right architecture for a system without storage, and it is why it costs what it does.
If storage is on the roadmap, you have two routes. Add an AC-coupled battery system alongside this inverter later, which works with any PV inverter and needs no change to what is already installed. Or choose a hybrid inverter now and pay for a battery port you will use in a year or two. We are happy to talk that trade-off through before you order.
Things worth knowing about this listing
- Please be aware you may receive stock with either 36 A / 32 A or 40 A / 32 A MPPTs.
- This inverter comes with integrated DC isolators but not the AC option. An AC isolator is required and is not supplied.
- South Africa: all 110K inverters, or any combination of inverters whose total parallel power reaches or exceeds 100 kW, must be set with a ramp-up rate of 10 % per minute, as required by NRS 097-2-1:2017 Annex G1.3.

Questions we get asked about this inverter
How does this differ from the S6-GC range?
The S6-GC is the newer platform with up to ten trackers and 21 A per string. The 5G PRO is the previous generation, still current, with six or eight trackers and 16 to 18 A. If you are extending a site that already runs 5G PRO units, matching them keeps monitoring and spares consistent.
What is night SVG?
Static VAr generation: the inverter supplies or absorbs reactive power at night when it is not generating. Some DNO connection offers require it on larger connections.
Can I use aluminium AC cable?
Yes, the terminals are rated for it. At 110 kW that is a genuine saving over copper.
Documents, advice and trade pricing
Every datasheet, certificate, installation manual and warranty document we hold for this product is in the Documents tab below. See the rest of our inverter range and our solar panels, or email our sales team at sales@clearraysolar.com if you would like us to check a string design or a compatibility question before you order.
Three figures govern it, all in the Technical Specifications: the MPPT voltage range, the maximum input voltage and the maximum DC power. Tell us which panel you're pairing it with and we'll confirm the string layout.
G98 covers installations up to 3.68kW per phase and is notified to your DNO after commissioning. Anything larger needs G99 approval agreed beforehand. We can flag which one your design falls under.
A hybrid inverter takes a DC-coupled battery directly. A standard string inverter needs an AC-coupled battery alongside it. The Technical Specifications show which type this unit is.
Yes, up to the maximum DC power figure in the specifications. Modest oversizing is normal practice - it lifts output in winter and at either end of the day, at the cost of brief clipping at midday peak.
An MPPT tracks the optimum operating point for a string of panels. You want one per roof orientation or pitch, because panels facing different directions on a single tracker drag each other down.
The standard manufacturer warranty is listed under the Warranty tab. Extended cover is available on most brands - see Warranty Extensions.
