SolarEdge Synergy Secondary Unit with RapidShutdownDevice

SolarEdge

Synergy Secondary Unit with RapidShutdownDevice

A secondary Synergy Unit with the Rapid Shutdown Device fitted, for a SolarEdge three-phase inverter built on Synergy Technology.

Rapid Shutdown de-energises the array automatically when the AC grid disconnects, bringing the DC side down to a touch-safe voltage. Where a fire officer, an insurer or a client specification asks for automatic DC de-energisation, this is the version to order.

Overview

SolarEdge Synergy Unit, with Rapid Shutdown

Rapid Shutdown de-energises the array automatically when the AC grid disconnects, bringing the DC side down to a touch-safe voltage. Where a fire officer, an insurer or a client specification asks for automatic DC de-energisation, this is the version to order.

Like every Synergy Unit it cannot be used on its own — it always requires a Synergy Manager. Fifty and 66.6 kW systems take two units; 90 and 100 kW take three.

Frequently asked questions

Questions we get asked about this inverter

Can I use this on its own?

No. A Synergy Unit always requires a Synergy Manager to work.

Do I have to use RSD units throughout?

Match the rest of the system. Mixing RSD and non-RSD units within one inverter is not a supported configuration — ask us if you are completing an existing system.

What does Rapid Shutdown actually do?

On AC grid disconnect it drops the array's DC voltage to a touch-safe level automatically, rather than leaving several hundred volts on the roof cabling.
