Storage earns its keep by moving energy in time: solar generated at noon and cheap electricity bought overnight, both spent in the evening. The numbers that decide whether it pays are usable capacity, charge rate and cycle life — not the figure on the box.

About the Fox ESS EQ5000 high voltage series
The EQ5000 is the largest of Fox's EQ modules at 4.92 kWh nominal and 4.43 kWh usable, and it is the module the PQ1 stackable all-in-one is designed around. Six of them make 29.52 kWh.
As with every EQ stack, one EQ5000-M master carries the battery management and the slaves add capacity. Two modules is the minimum and six the maximum in a series stack.
IP65 for outdoor or indoor use, natural convection cooling, charge from 0 °C and discharge from −10 °C.

The details that decide whether this battery suits the system:
- One master plus one to five slaves. Two modules minimum, six maximum.
- 38.5 A recommended discharge, 50 A maximum charge and discharge, 65 A peak for 60 seconds.
- 64 V per module: 128 V at two modules through to 384 V at six, with operating windows of 116 – 146 V and 348 – 438 V.
- On the PQ1 the modules stack under the power unit and the inverter carries the management, which is why the PQ1 packages list slave modules only.
- Fox's compatibility matrix counts the modules an inverter will carry in total. Where that number is larger than the maximum stack on the datasheet, it is because the inverter takes more than one stack in parallel — the per-stack limit still applies to each one.
- A stack is one module type throughout. Fox modules of different capacities are not mixed in a series string, and a Fox low-voltage battery will not work on a high-voltage inverter or the other way round.
- 570 mm wide, 380 mm deep, 375 mm tall at two modules rising to 915 mm at six; 97.2 kg to 271.2 kg.
- Charge 0 to 55 °C, discharge −10 to 55 °C. IP65, natural convection.

Is one module a battery?
No. A stack is one EQ5000-M master plus at least one EQ5000-S slave — 9.84 kWh at two modules.
Why do the PQ1 packages contain slaves only?
On the PQ1 the power unit carries the battery management, so the stack under it is made of slave modules. On an H1, KH or H3 you need a master.
How many will my inverter take?
Between two and six depending on the family — the table on this page has the numbers.
How much can I use?
4.43 kWh a module, at a 90 % depth of discharge.
Can it go outside?
Yes, IP65, outdoor or indoor on the Fox stand.

Usable energy is the nominal capacity multiplied by the depth of discharge, and both figures are in the Technical Specifications. Most current lithium batteries allow 90% or more.

Most systems stack in modules up to a maximum number of units per installation, given in the datasheet. Keep to the same model, and buy the full stack together where budget allows.
Only where the IP rating and operating temperature range allow it - both are in the Technical Specifications. Cold reduces usable capacity, so a garage or utility space is usually the better location.
Yes, where the inverter supports timed or forced charging. Paired with a time-of-use tariff this is often the quickest route to a shorter payback.
